We shouldn’t even have to say this, but here we are—vendors need to eat too. Yes, we’re here to work. Yes, it’s your big day. Yes, it’s a celebration for you and your guests. Vendors are still human beings. Many times vendors are running off adrenaline and very little food getting through the wedding day.
I want to clarify. I’m not expecting to sit next to Auntie Sheila at Table 6. My main point is that if your vendors, particularly those working extended hours such as 6 or more hours, aren’t being fed or start to feel like a hassle just for grabbing a plate, that’s definitely an issue.
Occasionally, the issue isn’t the couple’s budget but rather the venue itself. I have experienced reception halls being uncooperative, ignoring my presence, or offering minimal catering, such as a basic sandwich in a plastic bag. In some cases, I have been asked to dine in the back of the kitchen. Sometimes sitting between a mop and a stack of crates, just hoping I don’t end up dropping anything on my camera strap.
Hey, I totally understand. Vendors are not guests, and we’re not here to take anything away from your experience. We are, however, working nonstop. We’re often on our feet, sweating through the heat, and hauling gear to keep your day running smoothly. The least we ask is for a warm plate of food and five minutes to breathe before we’re back on our feet capturing memories.
If you’re a couple reading this, here’s a simple tip: include a vendor meal in your headcount. Most caterers offer this option, and it’s usually even less expensive than a guest plate. Honestly, it’s a small gesture that goes a long way. It shows appreciation to the folks helping make your day perfect.
To the venues and planners who might be reading this, reminder, vendors are part of the team too. We might not be on the guest list, but we’re there early, staying late, and making sure everything runs smoothly in between. When we’re treated like an afterthought, especially when it comes to basics like food, it makes our job a lot harder than it needs to be.
We’re not asking for fancy meals or table service. All we really need is a hot meal and a moment to recharge. With that, we can get back to doing what we do best. That’s catching that perfect first dance shot, keeping the schedule on track, or helping the couple stay calm when things get hectic.
Remember, we’re all working toward the same goal: giving the couple the best day possible. So, it’s super helpful if you don’t make us chase down a sandwich like it’s some sort of scavenger hunt. Just feed your vendors. It’s one of the easiest wins you can have!
